AHEM, getting on my soapbox

Let me talk about Miley Cyrus and these "embarrasing" photos that just came up for the cover of Vanity Fair magazine.

This is how I see it. I don't really think that Miley has ruined her career as many have said. The photos really aren't that distasteful and personally I don't see them as provacative. I've seen plenty worse on TV shows or commercials that our children watch everyday and no one seems to freak out on those. I think Britney is getting her act together so the media needs someone else to hound and hackle. Here comes Miley with a semi famous dad and a great following.

I'm tired of the media scrutinizing all these little things she does. Too much make up, lip synching on her tour, too many peace signs. Get over yourselves!! She is a 15 year old little girl trying to find herself in a world where everyone watches. She is told to look and act like a demure girl in a world where sex sells. She is only acting her age.

What I think is the worst part is that all this media attention is bringing it more to the forefront then if we had just looked at the cover and moved on. There are so many more important things to worry about then if Miley Cyrus/Hannanh Montana has ruined her billion dollar career by posing in a sheet with a bare back. I bet her swimsuit shows more skin then that photo!!

It all brings me back to this...if you don't like it don't participate. No need to bring a minor into the situation and ruin her just because you may not like something she stands for. YOU are giving her free press by making a big deal out of nothing. Dont' watch her shows or listen to her music. No one is making you and I feel it is just hurtful to drag a 15 year old's reputation through the mud because you take offense to a picture that you didn't have to look at in the first place.

I feel she has done nothing wrong but take a picture that the world seems to be overreacting to. Vanity Fair always does risque photos (Demi moore pregnant) and this one is tame comparably in my opinion.I think she is doing the best she can with all the pressures of being a tween star and trying to find herself on that stage. Who does she really have as a role model?

I like her and will continue to do my part in making her a gazillionare. Like I said, I have seen worse on regular TV shows or even video games that the majority of people seem to think is ok. If you don't like it don't give it press.

Done with my soap box.

Another little time wasting don't wanna do my work quiz

Take this test!
Maria Portokalos may not have been the focus of the movie, but that's the only way she would have had it. You, like Maria, are the backbone of your family, but you do it without ever wanting to be the center of attention. You know what we're talking about — your kids always seek out your well-thought-out and sincere advice, and your husband knows who really wears the pants in your house.

You consider motherhood a delicate balancing act — you're strong and tough when necessary, but it's tempered with love and respect. Fiercely loyal, you always act with your family's best interest at heart. And that's just the way you want it.

Man Spray

A few weeks ago Jake got into the Cologne Spray that Grey got for Christmas. Jake asked if he could use some "man spray". I didn't know what he was talking about until he showed me and so I let him use it. That same day he also dressed up, put on a belt and then wore Natalie's pink cowboy boots!! All the time talking about what man's do. Since then he wears man spray regularly when we go out. He has put some on a dog-the boy one and our cat. He says he needs to get a wife because that's what man's do too. He is dead serious about this and I have been using it as leverage to get him to do things that he usually won't. Today he wants to go to walmart and find more man spray because he wants to smell different. I don't think the Axe people were thinking of a 5 year old when they made the cologne spray. I love the imagination of kids and how those little minds work.

Spring Break 2008-Zoo trip

We finally got to the zoo this week. Jake is my animal lover and we could go every day if it were up to him. I think everyone had the same idea as us because it was very busy and the line was super long!! Grey tried to take a picture but couldn't really get the full line. Our season pass came in handy because we got to surpass all those people. YEAH for us. We also took a trip to the Children's museum this week but I was too busy talking to people to take too many pictures. We really had a good week. I think my kids really needed it because they were getting along great all week. I can count on one hand all the fights they had. It is so great when that happens. It was a busy week and the kids go back Monday but only for about 6 more weeks and then it's summer vacation. I am so ready for a break. I really like having my kids around. Next year all will be in school. I need to enjoy while I can.

Stress Relief for "those Days"

My sister sent me this site awhile ago. Who couldn't use a little stress relief?

Have fun.

Yesterday the kids started Spring Break and Bob took the day off. We went to a fossil site out in the middle of nowhere to dig our own trilobites and take home. We all had a really great time and it was fun searching through all the tons of rocks out there. The kids had the most luck with finding them. It was very dusty and windy but it was well worth it. We all had a great time.

Grey's Glasses

We finally got Greyson's glasses today. He is very excited and is amazed at how well he can see now. I think he looks very handsome but then I am his mother.

Stolen from a commercial

We will be going to Nebraska this July for my sister's wedding. I'm going through my budget and this is what comes to mind:

My dress for wedding: $100
Kids clothes for wedding: $100
Gas for trip: $300 round trip
Food for trip: $500
Hotel: $600
Watching your sister get married and seeing family:
Disclaimer: These are all estimates I know I'll spend more on everything because that is what I do!!! BUT, I still can't wait for the fun, the fights, and all that comes with being with family.

April Fool's

Every year my kids have come to expect me to do some type of April Fool's joke on them. This year when dinner was served and it was all regular food they were a little disappointed. But, when dessert came their faith in me was restored. I made the sundaes above that are supposed to look like fried eggs. Not the most elaborate prank but they loved it. Greyson knew it was a prank, Natalie didn't want to eat it, and Jake didn't care he just likes eating. It was just ice cream covered with marshmallow fluff and a yellow type of pudding on top to look like an egg. They come to expect this little joke like they expect Santa. I guess I need to keep the tradition up. One year I made meatloaf cupcakes with mashed potatoe "frosting". I really had them that year. It was great. Here's the 3 of them chowing down.
